Steve offers over 40 years of Turbine Generator Design, Plant Operations, and Maintenance expertise to the power plant industry. Early in his career, Steve led the design effort for the Westinghouse 200 mw turbine fleet targeted at combined-cycle plant applications and was a key developer of the Ruggedized Turbine Rotor Product line currently in operation worldwide. After working in key positions for a major utility, Steve began his career in 1991 as an independent power industry consultant and later incorporated TG Advisers in 2003. In addition to patents for design innovation, he has published over fifty technical papers and articles and has been an instructor for industry courses worldwide. Steve is a registered professional engineer in the states of Delaware and Maryland.

John has 40 years of power industry experience in both OEM and utility capacities. While working in the rotor and structures group at Siemens, he developed several steam turbine analytical methods and new designs, initially as an individual contributor and later as manager. At the Charlotte manufacturing facility, John’s responsibilities included managing steam turbine engineering for major repair services and new manufacturing. His extensive experience brought him to Duke Energy where he oversaw engineering for several combined cycle plants and clean air projects. During his 10 plus years at TG Advisers, he has led client engagements in performing equipment health assessments, failure analyses, root cause determinations, troubleshooting, bid spec development, and other owner engineering support tasks. John’s vast knowledge of technical issues has allowed him to be a leader in providing training and workshops to improve owner capabilities.

Vice President

Tom has over a decade of experience in the power generation sector; first with a major turbine and generator OEM and now as a consultant at TG Advisers. Tom is a graduate of GE’s esteemed Edison Engineering Development Program and holds 6 US patents related to turbine design and repair. While at GE, Tom’s responsibilities focused on the design and repair development of both steam and gas turbine hardware. Tom’s extensive design, repair, and shop experience enables him to provide OEM insight with an independent perspective. In his current role as Director of Engineering, Tom oversees TGA’s growing engineering team and is a main contact for TGA’s global client base. In addition to the publication of multiple technical papers, he has presented engineering course material for webinars, trainings, and conferences throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Tom is a registered professional engineer in the United States in the state of Delaware and a registered professional engineer in Canada in the provinces of Alberta and Nova Scotia. Tom holds a BSME degree from Virginia Tech and a MSME degree from Georgia Tech.

With over 45 years of welding engineering experience for steam and gas turbines, generators, compressors, and rotating machinery, Dennis provides highly valued expertise to power plant operating systems. His career began at Westinghouse in new welded fabrications and later expanded into servicing older components. His technical “know how” for the welded fabrication of new rotor designs (LP to IP) has been used extensively on service applications (ex. the removal of old ends with replacement of new forgings or reuse of existing forgings by narrow groove welding). Dennis has 19 patents and is a Certified Welding Inspector.

Stacey has over 25 years of field service operations/maintenance experience with steam and gas turbines, generators, compressors, and rotating equipment. His field service experience includes General Electric, Siemens, Westinghouse, Elliott, amongst other designs. Stacey routinely provides independent owner/operators quality assurance inspections for component refurbishment onsite and at service repair facilities. Stacey has also self-directed major turbine and generator maintenance and outages.

Bill has over 45 years of engineering, service repair, QA/QC, and project management experience for steam and gas turbines and generators. Bill provides technical direction, evaluation, and vendor QA/QC surveillance services to the power generation industry in the inspection, repair, and fabrication of power generation equipment. Earlier in Bill’s career, he managed the startup of a new Elliott Turbo-Machinery Service Center which replaced the local OEM shop as the quality, price, and volume leader in the southeast for turbine and generator repairs.

Roland’s more than 25 years of testing and diagnostic experience has proven beneficial in troubleshooting many complex turbo-generator issues which have plagued the industry for years. His diagnostic expertise has resulted in over 20 industry publications for topics including vibration measurements, analysis, sensor development, machinery diagnostics, and overall dynamics of rotating machinery. In addition, his technical knowledge has led to refinements and advancements of torsional testing methods, blade vibration testing, and general machinery diagnostic efforts for both the nuclear and fossil industries. The accurate and reliable data produced by Roland has provided significant improvements in reliability and availability for many power companies.

Jim has 40 plus years of experience with thermal performance assessments, plant optimizations, and the identification and correction of capacity and heat rate concerns. He has provided these operational betterment assessments for existing fossil-fire steam cycle, simple-cycle combustion turbine, and combined-cycle generating facilities. Jim has developed performance guarantee testing procedures and contractual terms for many steam turbine upgrades and retrofits. His expertise provides significant value to the industry through performance deficiency identification, steam path audits, and methodologies relating to NERC conformance standards.

Bill offers 40 plus years’ experience in the power generation sector. He possesses a strong technical background in all aspects of power plant operations and maintenance. Bill held positions of Project Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor for a major utility where he planned and implemented major turbine generator inspections and led investigations to resolve turbine generator issues. As a Senior Consulting Engineer for TG Advisers, he is skilled in root cause analysis/troubleshooting, outage planning, and capital upgrade planning.

Matt has over a decade of experience in the power industry. He started at General Electric in the Power and Water division after being accepted into the Edison Engineering Development Program (EEDP) and he holds 4 patents from his time as a Hot Gas Path design engineer on the 9E Max (9E.04) program. Currently, Matt serves as a Senior Consulting Engineer with TG Advisers. He has conducted numerous customer witness points at multiple OEMs and third-party repair shops and has served as the lead investigator on several steam and gas turbine Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA or RCA) projects with the latest being on 501F and 7FA gas turbines. Additionally, Matt was integral to the redesign of a damaged steam turbine rotor following failure of the unit’s lube oil system. He has become one of TGA’s internal Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) experts and has assisted multiple fossil and nuclear plants in evaluating the remaining life of their units and develop strategies to manage active SCC discovered during major outage inspections. Matt holds a BSME degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a MSME degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dan’s 40 years of experience spans services for the petrochemical and electric power generation industries in project engineering roles. Dan has significant experience with boilers, HRSGs, and emissions equipment. His areas of expertise also include all major mechanical components and controls, including turbines and generators of traditional fossil-fueled fire power plants as well as combined-cycle power plants. Dan has also completed several root causes analyses, authored several technical reports for EPRI, and successfully assisted clients with expert witness testimony.

Brad has 45 years’ experience in the electric power industry. Earlier in Brad’s career he led efforts at a major utility to develop and maintain engineering, design, procurement, and overhaul standards as well as initiating and maintaining a turbine parts and spare rotor program. Since the early 2000s, Brad has worked exclusively with utility scale turbine generators. He has had an integral part in authoring TG Advisers’ library of 400 plus Turbine Generator Health Assessments. These TGA exclusive guides summarize a unit specific turbine generator’s lifetime detailed operating and maintenance history and provide recommendations for future maintenance and planning. Brad also routinely provides root cause analysis services for generator failures and shop surveillance of inspections and repairs. Brad was the lead author and project manager of the EPRI Generator Brazing Best Practices technical guide and the EPRI Fast-Track Generator Health Assessment software package.

Vlad offers 25 years of turbine generator and plant commissioning, maintenance, and overhaul experience to the power plant industry. His extensive knowledge of turbine generators and utility equipment for a wide range of OEMs renders his services as Senior Field Engineer invaluable to customers worldwide. For TG Advisers, Vlad supports a wide variety of field troubleshooting jobs and serves as an Owner’s Representative during turbine and generator outages. Throughout his career, Vlad has worked more than 80 turbine generator field service projects for 40 different clients in 23 countries. Vlad has a reputation for being detail-oriented and hands-on. His troubleshooting work on hydrogen seal oil systems resulted in a performance award while employed by a major turbine and generator OEM in the early 2000s. Vlad is an honors graduate from the University of Toronto’s prestigious Engineering Science Program with a bachelor’s degree of Applied Science in Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering.

Wayne’s 45 years of experience in the areas of industrial and utility operations has focused on water purification, boiler systems, cooling tower treatment, and problem solving. As a System Chemist for a major utility, his responsibilities included standardizing all chemistry practices and processes, providing technical supervision, and coordinating system reliability. His expertise in chemistry for utility operations makes him a valued asset as TG Advisers works with facilities to troubleshoot issues and provide recommendations for optimal practices and processes.

As a Lead Consulting Engineer for TG Advisers, John is responsible for technical assessments, software development, and engineering analysis for turbine and generator hardware. John’s experience in modeling simulations for fatigue and stress case analyses has encompassed working on projects for high temperature bolting upgrades, cylinder cracking, remaining cyclic life assessments and root cause analysis of bearing failures. He is also well-versed with finite element analysis, VBA coding of custom applications, and TGA’s signature health assessment program. John has a BSME from North Carolina State University and is a member of ASME.

Steve has over 12 years of engineering, operations, and project management experience. Steve’s responsibilities before joining TG Advisers focused on operations supervision, plant process efficiency improvements, cogenerated power use optimization, project engineering and capital project implementation. During the past 5 years, Steve has provided TG Advisers’ numerous clients with engineering consulting services which have included rotor dynamic modeling and analysis, plant retrofit improvements, outage support/shop surveillance, life assessments, new unit design review, finite element analysis, and various troubleshooting projects for both steam and gas turbine designs as well as air and hydrogen cooled generators. More recently, his efforts have focused on managing TGA’s signature health assessment program for a major power company’s fleet of units and being the technical lead for a variety of engineering projects. Steve is trained as a Six Sigma Green Belt and is an engineering graduate from Virginia Tech.

Soren worked for TG Advisers as an intern prior to taking on a consulting engineering position in 2019. Soren’s responsibilities initially began with data input for plot analysis review. Over the past 2 years, he has assisted with modeling, analysis, and reporting. Most recently, he has become a key contributor on TG Advisers’ signature health assessment program and has prepared and supported presentations to our wide base of power plant clients. Soren is proficient with CAD and SolidWorks software. Since graduating from the University of Delaware with a BSME degree, Soren has gone on to complete an MBA from the University of Delaware.

Prior to graduating from the University of Delaware in 2020 with a BSME, Zac interned for TG Advisers providing data entry and modeling support for troubleshooting issues and optimization alternatives for operation. Over the last year and a half, Zac has become skilled in processing data and analyzing reports for our key health assessment program as well as provide critical statistical information for troubleshooting equipment issues. Zac is trained on CAD and SolidWorks and is applying his knowledge to design modeling.
